Rural Scholars is a program developed to encourage students interested in rural medicine and medical school.

The program is sponsored by LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport, AHEC Program Office and North Louisiana AHEC.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
The program provides students with:

• A foot into the door of LSU Health Science Center
  
• The opportunity to gain access to health career experiences and key LSU Health Science Center faculty
  
• A better understanding of the medical school application process and what it takes to make it once you are in
  
• Guest lectures, developmental workshops and retreats as well as hands-on activities
• Monthly or quarterly activities and gifts throughout the 2 year program
  

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO?
Requirements:

• Must be a former NLAHEC student OR from a city in Louisiana with a population of less than 20,000
  
• College sophomore or junior at an accredited University
• Must demonstrate an interest in medical school and health careers in a rural setting
  
• Complete application which includes copy of official ACT score & high school transcript

Students are chosen for this unique opportunity because of their academic success, their connection with NLAHEC, and their interest in applying to medical school. It is a prestigious achievement.
