A-HEC of a Summer

The A-HEC of a Summer Program is an opportunity for high school freshman, sophomores, and juniors (ages 15-18) to explore career opportunities by "hands-on" participation as a volunteer in a local medical facility for 15 days.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

A-HEC of a Summer provides students with the chance to explore health careers firsthand. Students learn how to apply the information learned in high school classes to the health care industry.

Participants have the opportunity to develop relationships with health care industry mentors and professionals.  Students earn their CPR certification and first aid training

Students earn one half unit of general elective credit at all Louisiana high schools while providing more than 100 hours of volunteer community service to their community.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Student participants must:

§  Be a high school freshman, sophomore or junior

§  Be 15 years old by June 1 (year of participation)

§  Have a GPA of 2,0 or higher

§  Complete an A-HEC of a Summer application form (link below)

§  Submit 2 letters of recommendation (form available below-see link)

§  Personal essay (200 words or less)

Space is limited.  Student participants will be selected based on the information provided on their application, during their interview, and on recommendations.  

Students will be invited to a personal interview with members of the Community Advisory Committee.
